Materials we work with

1.Paracord - Our first love

1.1. What is paracord ?

Original Paracord is a ''U.S. made'' nylon cord that consists of a core of threads in a woven nylon jacket. The word 'Paracord' comes from its use by American paratroopers during the Second World War. After a parachute landing the cord would be cut from the parachute and used for all kinds of applications. Because of its popularity today the cord is available in many variants of varying quality. The Paracord Type III 550 is the most used Paracord and can be found in certain craft stores.

1.2. Types of Paracord

Paracord is available in all kinds of thicknesses, colors and patterns. The different thicknesses are often referred to as "Type" or with the corresponding breaking load (in pounds). For example, the most commonly used "Paracord Type III" is also called "550 Paracord" because it has a breaking load of 550 lbs. (249 kg). In addition to Type III, Type II is also widely used for more elegant knotwork and 'Type I' and 'Micro' are often used as an accessory cord.

We mostly use Type III and II in our braided collars and leashes, and on occasion decorate with smaller types.

2. PPM cord - the discovery of a perfect adventurer leash

PPM rope (Polypropylene Multifilament)  Due to the properties of Polypropylene PPM rope is widely used for making dog lines and horse halters.

PPM rope properties:

  • Shiny and light weight
  • Easy to knot, inelastic
  • Floats and absorbs very little moisture
  • Non-toxic, safe for both humans and animals (OEKO-TEX®)
  • Resistant to mold and rot. Easy to keep clean
  • High tenacity Polypropylene Multifilament strands
  • Density 0.91 g/cm³ (floats)
  • Perfectly washable at 30ºC
  • Made in the EU

The difference between PARACORD and PPM CORD :

PPM rope is basically a kernmantle rope just like Paracord, but PPM is also made without a core (PPM flat rope without core). The difference with Paracord is the basic material, the weaving technique, and the relationship between the core and the sheath. Our "US Made Paracord" is made of Polyamide (brand name nylon), but PPM rope is made of Polypropylene. Both materials have different characteristics.

We use 6mm, 8mm, 10 mm (*1150 kg breaking point) and 12 mm PPM cord diameters for different projects from dog collars, leashes, horse halters and lines, etc .

We recommend 6 or 8 mm cord for small dogs, 8-10 mm for medium dogs and 10-12mm for large/giant dogs.

Also there are 3 types of cord available :

  1. standard PPM cord
  2. solid braid PPM cord (S.B.) - is made out of one continuous braid with no core/outer core, mostly 12 mm
  3. special Dog Leash cord - premium feel and colors, mostly 10 mm

There are many many colors of PPM cord available, and we are always adding more, to see all the colors available please write us an email at : paracordforpets@gmail.com

3.1. Biothane - the best waterproof material

BioThane® is the brand name of all coated webbing products made by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. It’s basically a polyester webbing with a TPU or PVC coating that makes it more durable, waterproof, easy to clean and weldable.

Why is BioThane® better than leather?

BioThane® is more durable, cleanable, stronger and easier to maintain. It is also readily available in different colors.

Easy to wipe clean with soap and water and this means dog walks in the rain and mud will not be a problem. After a satisfying long, muddy walk, you will never feel dismay at the prospect of a wet, muddy collar and lead again.

There is a variety of widths of Bio available. In an even wider variety of ever-changing color scheme.

We mostly use 19mm width (* with 340 kg breaking point ) Bio for our Leashes and 25 (* 545 kg breaking point) or 38mm (*678 kg breaking point) for Collars.  9, 13 or 16mm widths for Ling lines.

Also the round version of biothane is available in 6 and 8 mm for standard and long leashes.

Our Biothane available colors:

* for real photos of the colors, please contact us.

* because of the limitations the site has, we can only have 100 variables / product to sell, so this means not all colors are listed, if you want one of the colors that are not listed for sale, just contact us by Email or on or FB/Insta page .

3.2. Hexa Biothane - Lighter, softer, more flexible

This coated webbing is made of synthetic material PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) and is more durable, cleanable, stronger and easier to maintain than common textile webbing. This is a cheaper alternative to natural leather, which it its properties in many respects equalized It is abrasion resistant, 100% water and bacteria resistant, and does not stretch. It is favored for dog collars, leashes, horse halters and bridles.

We have available collars and leashes and use 25mm width for collars, and 19/16mm for leashes ( simple and adjustable )

 4. Twisted Cotton rope -  the best urban adventurer material

Cotton Twisted Rope is a natural rope made of cotton fibers. The rope has a diameter of 12 mm ( *Under tension, the rope has a diameter of 10 mm. Loose, it is approx. 11.5 mm). The rope feels soft and has a smooth texture and feel. Cotton is environmentally friendly and biodegradable.

The cotton rope is perfect to be used as a dog line or for macramé projects. This rope feels firm in your hand and has a fine texture. This Cotton Rope is slightly stiff but becomes more flexible after use.

Cotton rope is mainly used in shipping industry but has now also found its place in other industries. Cotton rope (depending on the thickness) is increasingly used for in and around the house and in the garden as decoration, as a dog leash, for sports and it is perfect for making macramé wall hangings, plant hangings, curtains, wall hangings and dreamcatchers.

The rope is moisture resistant, does not harden under the influence of moisture and also has a large water absorption capacity, up to 30% of its own weight. If the rope has become wet it must be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent it from becoming moldy. Because it is a natural product the rope is not very resistant to UV light and may discolor if exposed to too much sunlight.

Cotton rope is a material that dyes well due to cotton’s ability to easily take up dye and maintain color.

We now have available 5 mm twisted cotton rope for our Show leads (*with backing load of 60 kg force) and 10 mm (*with 300 kg breaking load) for Urban dog leads. Both in a variety of colors.

5. Leather

Greased Leather and Pull up Nubuck leather are the leather types we work with and they refer to - high-quality leather that is coated with an aniline dye to give it a richer colour and appearance. Additionally, the wax and oil coating in pull up buffalo leather also makes it resistant to collecting dust and dirt.

Note: leather is a natural product. Each piece is unique and therefore not always the same compared to another piece. Sometimes some irregularities can be seen.
